The Group Hug are delighted to share this piece written by the co-founder of The Baby Bank, Amy Tisi.

They do amazing work for families in desperate need of support so have a read as it’s a feel good, inspirational story…. and if you are in the Berkshire area, feel free to donate.

Seeing the increased need for food banks and grateful for the help from family and friends when they had their own babies, led Amy Tisi and Rebecca Mistry to set up The Baby Bank in early 2015.

Providing families with all the essentials for a newborn, including clothes, nappies and cots, the charity relies on donations of preloved items from the community, new items from businesses such as Tesco, as well as grants.

passion led us here

Families are referred by social workers, midwives and other charities such as Dash or Slough Refugee support. A recent user wrote, “I can never repay you for what you have done for me and my kids. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.”

Demand for their service has continued to grow, partly due to awareness but also, they believe, as a result of the introduction of universal credit and the problems that can occur while switching. Referrals increased 500% in January 2019 compared to the previous January and on one day in March they received 55 referrals- the highest ever!

We started helping newborns and babies but now word has spread, we provide clothes, shoes and school uniform to children up to 18 years and essential toiletries to their parents; we’ve now helped over 1100 families.”
