Central London is home to a mix of lively restaurants and pubs, music and theatre venues, and shopping centres. Landmarks include the 1845 Covent Garden Market, with produce, cheese, and meat vendors (SW8 5BH), Trafalgar Square (WC2N 5DN) and Buckingham Palace (SW1A 1AA). Built as ‘Buckingham House’ in 1703, Buckingham palace was originally constructed as a large townhouse for Duke Buckingham. In 1791, King George III bought the property as a gift for Queen Charlotte, thus earning it the name The Queen’s House. In 1837, the palace became the London residence of one of Britain’s most famous and longest reigning monarchs, Queen Victoria.

The city infamous for the Red Double-Decker bus and the Black Cab is also home to some great art galleries including Tate Britain (SW1P 4RG) and the National Gallery (WC2N 5DN). The latter is the UK’s main depository of artworks with around 2300 paintings, sculptures, sketches, and more from the Mid-13th Century to the present along with special exhibits that change regularly. The National Gallery also offers many other exciting opportunities, whether you’re hungry or want to sketch while you’re there.
