Sutton Coldfield
Sutton Coldfield, officially the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, is a civil parish and suburban town in Birmingham. The area is home to Sutton Park, one of the largest urban parks in England.
The park has an area of 2,224.2 acres (9.001 km2) and is used as part of the course for the Great Midlands Fun Run, sponsored by the Sutton Coldfield Observer (B73 6BU).

Sutton Coldfield was given the right to be known as The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield by King Henry VIII in 1528. The town has shopping centres, the oldest church dates back to around 1300, an active arts community and is home to Sutton Coldfield RFC and Sutton Coldfield Town FC.

Sutton Park – over 2000 acres nature reserve at Park Road, Sutton Coldfield, B74 2YT. There is a donkey sanctuary, children’s playgrounds, visitors centre, several lakes, ancient woodlands, areas to fly model aeroplanes and restaurants.
Kingsbury Water Park – over 600 acres of country park at Bodymoor Heath Lane, Sutton Coldfield, B76 0DY. Renowned for its birdlife, the park is popular with bird watchers. There are lakes, play areas, a miniature railway, café, information centre/shop and bike hire here.

The earliest known signs of human settlement in Sutton Coldfield were discovered in 2002/2003 on the edge of the town. The discoveries were made during the preparation of the M6 Toll Road revealed evidence of Broze Age bunt mounds. The presence of an Iron Age Settlement was also uncovered and this consisted of circular houses. Many exciting and interesting discoveries were found around Langley Mill Farm. Around 3 roman coins have been found around Sutton Park.
Modern day shopping for the town is at the Gracechurch Centre, 210a Parade, Sutton Coldfield B72 1PA, which was built in 1974. The centre was revamped in 2006.
There is a second shopping centre “The Red Rose Centre” which is based at The Lower Parade, B72 1XX along with several more localised shopping parades such as “The Lanes” in Wylde Green. which is approxmately 2 miles south of Sutton Coldfield. Parking for The Lanes can be found at B72 1YG

Are you thinking about separation or divorce because of domestic abuse?
A common reason for divorce one party being abused in some way by the other party. This could be emotional or physical abuse and for the divorce court comes under the heading of “unreasonable behaviour”. Whilst the divorce proceedings trundle on through the civil court system, victims can find themselves also going through the criminal courts if the Police are involved and there is enough evidence to bring a case.
In recent years, there has been much talk in the UK regarding the law around the subject of Domestic Abuse and divorce with draft legislation proposed by Theresa May in February 2017. This draft was finally released in January 2019 and will now be brought to Parliament for debate. The bill sets out a statutory government definition of domestic abuse which includes controlling and manipulative behaviour. For the first time, abuse does not have to be physical or violent.
Economic Abuse
The bill will recognise economic abuse, (also known as financial abuse) which is where a partner is prevented from accessing bank accounts or employment. The victim becomes financially controlled. They may not be allowed to go out to work, or if they are employed, their wages may be paid into their partners account or they may not have access to benefits as they are given to a partner. December 2016 saw the introduction of the new law meaning that coercive or controlling behaviour is now a crime. This offence carries a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment, a fine or both.
The future
Slowly changes are being made. Escaping a domestic abuse situation leaves victims susceptible to many issues which also affect children as a parent may find themselves homeless, relying on foodbanks for daily essentials along with dealing with their mental health as they navigate the family court system against their perpetrator. Emotions run high and post separation abuse can be rife. The abuser is losing control and many say that economic abuse is the “tail” of physical abuse as the victim is out of arms reach.
