Mansfield is a large market town which gained The Royal Charter of a Market Town right back in 1227.

Things to do and see in Mansfield:

  • Pleasley Colliery is a former coal mine. Even only back to the 60’s, every village in the area around Mansfield had it’s own pit with most people employed but it in some way. The pit is based on The Nottinghamshire border and is actually in Derbyshire. There is a visitor centre offering an insite into what is now a dissapearing world in coal-mining and is run by The Land Trust and English Heritage.
  • Sherwood Visitor Centre – around 15 to 20 minutes from Mansfield, Sherwood Forest, Edwinstowe NG21 9RN, visit The Major Oak and get some exercise on some of the walks and trails which are suitable for many fitness levels, interests and durations.
  • Titchfield Park – 24 acres including formal sports areas and a skate park, youth area and children’s playground find it at 30 Park View Way, Mansfield NG18 2RN
  • Edinstowe High Street is just two minutes walk from the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre. There are many individual and unique shops and it is a real tourist attraction as it is associated with the Robin Hood and Maid Marian legends. Buy local crafts, beers, candles and chocolate. Sometimes the Forest Archers can be found handcrafting leather goods.
